Customised optical designs

Maxpla works with independent optical companies and designers able to create lenses and reflectors according to the customer’s specifications, providing ownership of the project, results, and confidentiality

The ownership of the optical project means having unmatched technical features in the event of participation in public and private tenders by solving the bidder’s requests exclusively. This allows to compact the size of the optical group (LED module + lens/reflectors) by being able to realise more compact appliances with greater power density.

A proprietary optical system provides maximum flexibility of shape by releasing the overall design of the appliance from the geometric constraints of a commercial system, thereby solving all other mechanical and electrical issues (e.g., water- and dust-proofing – IP sealing or the housing of mechanical parts).

By studying the optical system to match the chosen LED, technical compromises with other similar LEDs are removed; commercial optical systems, although designed on a specific (often unknown) LED, are always made compatible with other LEDs but, in these cases, the optical characteristics change with the possibility of unwanted flaws. A dedicated solution allows access to more competitive optical prices than commercial optical solutions available to buy, most times, through distributors.

Over time, being owner of the moulding machinery is a strategic asset for the company. Following the design, the customer is provided with 3D lens/reflector geometries and photometric files are provided in LDT/IES formats (obtained using optical simulation software) so that the design can be approved in advance.

In some cases, it may be worthwhile to approve the optical design by means of a functional prototype of the optical element; Maxpla supports the customer in this delicate phase as well.
